** maxb: There are now two seasons, but season 1 comfortably stands alone. Season 2 was a fun chance to revisit the characters, but would probably seem a bit same-y if watched consecutively with season 1. | ** maxb: There are now two seasons, but season 1 comfortably stands alone. ** Sports/Drama about a music club, playing the Koto. Aired as split cours, but in reality is one continuous show.
** maxb, initially: Exceptionally good, especially in how the characters interact with each other, slightly marred by rushed and clumsy pacing around the cour split.
** maxb, at end: The character introduction segment was splendid, unfortunately the writers appeared to then realise they'd signed up to do a tournament arc, despite lacking any flair for that. The result was a not particularly engaging series of performances, coupled with some really odd pacing at various points... when you're doing your grand exposition of a new foil-to-the-protagonist character's backstory in episode 24 of 26, alarm bells ought to be ringing. Supposedly-dramatic moments were so telegraphed that even I could see where they were going before they went there. This was a show of missed opportunities to be good :-/
