Archived:Costs
HERE ARE THINGS which the financial-obsessive and/or cautious members of this guild have calculated will contribute to the cost
UNMODIFIABLE STUFF (which will be a cost no matter what method we choose to use)
FOODSTUFFS AND DRINKING WATER
- £15 per person per day maybe? (this is based on costs in europe and the balkans being fractionally less than those here, but that we will not be eating in the most economic manner due to not living out of a supermarket (for one thing, we won't have a big fridge.) if anyone cares to revise this estimate, go right ahead
this totals £240 per person.
ACCOMMODATION
- how do we intend to do this? i have little idea. i will arbitrarily assume that for £15 per person any given town can put a group of five or six up for a night; this is based on www.hihostels.com information and assumes that we are going to do it by youth hostels &c. (the cheapest way)
this also totals £240 per person.
OTHER STUFF
- we will want to go in to attractions, museums and so forth maybe? let us assume that for the whole trip this totals £75 per person (based, again, on almost zero data).
- we must allow for random crap, let's allow £45 per person (arbitarily).
this totals (pretty arbitrarily) £120 per person.
UNMODIFIABLE: £600 ph
MODIFIABLE STUFF
hire (all costs ph): rent £150, fuel £60, flights £80, tolls £10: £300 ph
buy (all costs ph): buy £220, sale -£150, insurance £110, insurance reclaim -£65, tax £20, fuel £100, tolls £20, tunnel £25: 250 ph
TOTALS: £900 ph for hire, £850 ph for purchase (with an additional, but hopefully reclaimable, further float of £215) risks involved: hire, we will be charged through the nose in case of accident. buy, we lose the float but only have to pay a pittance for scrapping and a flight home.
